My Example
Water is undoubtedly connected to all aspects of your life, whether directly or indirectly. It is necessary for the manufacturing of products you use every day, from electronics to notebooks to the clothing you wear. You drink water from the faucet. You flush water down the drain. You swim in lakes and pools, go canoeing down the river, and water your plants.

At the Water Pollution Control Department, anything that ends up being flushed or poured down the drain in your home ends up being treated in the wastewater treatment process, and this water, after being treated to the stringent standards outlined in the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and enforced by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), is then discharged into the Wabash River.

Additionally, when it rains, the stormwater picks up chemicals, oils, debris and trash on hard surfaces like roads, sidewalks and parking lots, and flows into the nearest stormwater drain and then into the nearest waterway.

The Education Corner is meant to be a tool you can use to learn all about wastewater, stormwater, proper home maintenance techniques, and how to reduce pollution of the Wabash River by installing rain barrels and green infrastructure practices in your own home.
