Special Victims Unit

The Special Victims Unit is commanded by Lieutenant Dan Long and Sergeant Donna Rector, and is comprised of multiple Special Victims Unit Detectives. Special Victims Unit detectives are specially trained to conduct sexual assault and physical abuse investigations, as well as any cases involving endangering the welfare of a child. This dedicated group of police investigators must be able to deal with intensely personal, difficult, and emotionally charged situations while still expertly performing their jobs.

  • Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force - is a multiagency task force that investigates and prosecutes persons who use the internet to sexually exploit or entice children. The Indiana State Police oversees the Indiana ICAC Task Force.
  • National Center for Missing and Exploited Children - The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation, and prevent child victimization. NCMEC works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation.
    • Take It Down - Having nudes online is scary, but there is hope to get it taken down. This service is one step you can take to help remove online nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit photos and videos taken before you were 18.
  • Indiana Department of Child Services - provides services to children and their families to prevent or remedy child abuse and neglect and ensure the safety, permanency and well being of children. Call 800-800-5556 if you suspect abuse or neglect.
  • NetSmartz - Since 1998, NCMEC has operated the CyberTipline, a place where the public and electronic service providers can report suspected online and offline child sexual exploitation. The millions of reports made each year uniquely situate NCMEC to identify trends and create prevention resources to address the evolving needs of kids and teens online. 
  • Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office - pursues justice though fair and ethical prosecution of criminal offenders,  seeks justice for crime victims, and creates a safer community through positive partnerships with law enforcement, community organizations, schools, religious organizations, elected leaders, and government agencies
  • Heartford House Child Advocacy Center - The purpose of Heartford House is to allow children who have been a victim or witness to a crime to participate in a forensic interview with specially trained professionals who are members of a Multi-Disciplinary Team that includes law enforcement, prosecutor's office, and child protective services, medical, and mental health.
